    Akin Gump Pro Bono Scholar Info Session

    Please join Steven Schulman, Akin Gump Pro Bono Partner, to learn about pro bono at large law firms and Akin Gump’s 2015 Pro Bono Scholars Program. The Akin Gump Pro Bono Scholars Program is a two-year program for outstanding law students who want to make pro bono work an important part of their law firm careers. The Pro Bono Scholars are rising second-year law students who work with a public interest organization for at least seven weeks and three weeks in Akin Gump’s Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, or Washington, DC offices.

    PDI: Law Firm Track

    The Professional Development Institute: Prepared For Practice will be taught by industry experts and practicing attorneys, covering facets of new attorney professionalism most sought after by legal employers. It is promoted widely to employers, many of whom contributed to the content of this program. This program is open to all UT Law J.D. students.

    Registration opens on Tuesday, November 18, at 9:00 p.m. Space is limited!

    Law Firm Track will be held on Thursdays, January 22-February 26, 2015 from noon-1:00 p.m. in the Francis Auditorium. Lunch service will begin at 11:40 a.m. so the sessions may start promptly at noon.

    Public Service Career Fair (Day I)

    Hosted annually by the UT Law Career Services Office, Public Service Career Fair (PSCF) is the largest public service job fair for law students in Texas. During both days of PSCF, which will be held January 29-30, 2015, public interest and government employers will conduct on-campus interviews for paid and unpaid summer and permanent positions in the Career Services Interview Suite. On Thursday, January 30, certain employers will also host informational tables in the Law School's Susman Godfrey Atrium from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

    Public Service Career Fair (Day II)

    Hosted annually by the UT Law Career Services Office, Public Service Career Fair (PSCF) is the largest public service job fair for law students in Texas. During both days of PSCF, which will be held January 29-30, 2015, public interest and government employers will conduct on-campus interviews for paid and unpaid summer and permanent positions in the Career Services Interview Suite.

    TJWGL Spring Write-On Competition

    The Texas Journal of Women, Gender, & the Law is having its Spring 2015 Write-On Competition! Membership with TJWGL is great opportunity for 1Ls and 2Ls to improve their editing skills, and gives students a chance to advance to Ed Board their 2L or 3L year. TJWGL coordinates with several organizations, including ASAP, WLC, and the CWIL, on events held throughout the year. TJWGL will also be hosting a symposium this Spring on Domestic Violence.

    The Write-On will begin this Sunday, January 25th, and completed applications should be submitted either to Lauren Miller via email at laurendm@utexas.edu, or to TJWGL's box in the Communications Center by 5pm on Friday, January 30th. All gender orientations at UT Law are welcome to apply.

    On Friday, January 30, Heather Jarvis will be speaking about "Public Service Loan Forgiveness in Five Easy Steps" during lunch from noon-1:15 p.m. as part of the Public Service Career Fair. Many government and nonprofit professionals stand to gain tens of thousands of dollars of student debt relief from the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program established by the College Cost Reduction and Access Act. But the program requirements can be confusing. Heather knows how to break it down step-by-step so it makes sense once and for all. She'll also be discussing the Pay As You Earn Repayment Plan.
