    TELJ Symposium

    Welcome!

This year's symposium addresses the confluence of wildlife conservation, land use, and development, focusing on how these often conflicting goals are complicated in Texas by the pressures of climate change, water use, and severe drought. We are pleased to announce that this year’s keynote speaker is former Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt. Pursuant to the theme and Mr. Babbitt’s background, there will be four panels throughout the day featuring a diverse collection of speakers from the private sector, NGO's, and local, state, and federal government, covering important topics related to land use and conservation, including: •A look at the past, present, and future of the Balcones Canyonlands Habitat Conservation Plan.

•Analysis of important EPA and USFWS proposed rules and their interactions with the Endangered Species Act. •A discussion of climate change, drought, and endangered species policy in an increasingly thirsty Texas. •An exploration of the themes of Secretary Babbitt’s book, Cities in the Wilderness: A New Vision of Land Use in America, focusing on clashes between conservation and land use decisions in the United States, with specific strategies for building cooperative alliances among local, state, and federal stakeholders.

The symposium counts as 5 Hours of CLE, including 1 Hour of Ethics.
