Center for Women in Law Founding Member Susan Blount was presented with the President’s Award at the National Association of Women Lawyers Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon on Thursday July 21, 2011 at the Waldorf in New York City. The President’s Award recognizes an organization that has demonstrated leadership in advancing the causes of women in the law. Susan accepted the award on behalf of the Prudential Financial Law Department, where she has been senior Vice President and General Counsel since 2005.
“The Law Department of Prudential Financial is a shining star and we are truly pleased to recognize Prudential Financial for its innovative and effective ideas,” said NAWL President Dorian Denburg, who presented the award. Recognizing Susan’s leadership at Prudential, Denburg explained that Susan “energized Prudential’s Law Department in many areas but today we salute her for actions creating meaningful ways to promote diversity and advance women.” Under her leadership, Prudential proactively recruits and advances women internally. “Today, 50% of Susan’s direct reports are women; 40% of her senior supervisory attorneys are women and 40% of the department’s 162 attorneys are women,” Denburg explained.
The NAWL Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon draws approximately 1000 attendees, including in-house counsel, law firm attorneys, non-profit and public sector attorneys, academics, law students, and federal and state judiciary. The Center for Women in Law congratulates Susan Blount for this honor.
