Speaker: Mahzarin R. Banaji, Richard Clarke Cabot Professor of Social Ethics, Harvard University and George A. and Helen Dunham Cowan Chair in Human Dynamics, Santa Fe Institute

Professor Mahzarin R. Banaji, a foremost leader on the science behind unconscious thinking and feeling as they unfold in social context, will lead a sophisticated discussion on the research behind her new book, Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People, and its implications for advancing women lawyers into positions of influence. Using the revolutionary test she has co-developed (the  Implicit Association Test), Professor Banaji will demonstrate how perceptions of social groups shape the likes, dislikes, and judgments of even the most well-intentioned people and how individuals can adapt their beliefs and behavior to “outsmart the machine” in their heads. Participants can look forward to an unforgettable examination of their own minds that will shape their interactions with others for years to come.
