American Bar Association Task Force on Gender Equity Issues Reports on Gender Bias in Law Firm Partner Compensation

The American Bar Association Task Force on Gender Equity released two publications aimed at eradicating gender bias in law firm compensation.  Closing the Gap: A Road Map for Achieving Gender Pay Equity in Law Firm Partner Compensation outlines compensation systems and practices that will decrease the pay gap while enhancing the functioning of a firm as a whole. Power of the Purse: How General Counsel Can Impact Pay Equity for Women Lawyers highlights how general counsel can use economic power to ensure that their outside counsel firms are committed to diversity and equal opportunity.

Other publications released this year by the Task Force on Gender Equity include the Toolkit for Gender Equity in Partner Compensation, a “program in a box” containing everything needed for state bar associations to present thoughtful and informative programs on pay gap issues in law firms that was co-chaired by Center for Women in Law Director Linda Chanow, and What You Need to Know about Negotiating Compensation, a guide for female lawyers on how to negotiate their own compensation.
