Founding Member Marcia Backus was named Vice President and General Counsel of Occidental Petroleum Corporation, an international oil and gas exploration and production company. Occidental Petroleum is one of the largest U.S. oil and gas companies, based on equity market capitalization, with more than 40,000 employees and contractors globally. Marcia’s appointment will be effective October 1.
Marcia is currently a partner at Vinson & Elkins in Houston, Texas. She has a broad-based energy transactional law practice, representing industry and private equity firms in domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity investments and other corporate legal transactions and project development. An experienced energy transactional lawyer, Marcia has represented private equity investors in a variety of renewable and other non-conventional energy projects. Since 2003, she has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® in corporate, energy, oil and gas, and project finance law. Marcia has also been featured as an energy law expert in Euromoney’s Expert Guide to the World’s Leading Energy and Natural Resource Lawyers.
