Linda has served as the Executive Director for The Center for Women in Law since 2009. The Center for Women in Law is the premier educational institution devoted to the success of the entire spectrum of women in law, from first-year law students to the most experienced and accomplished attorneys.

Linda currently co-chairs the American Bar Association’s Toolkit for Gender Equity in Partner Compensation, an initiative of the ABA Gender Equity Presidential Task Force. A frequent author and speaker, she has worked to advance women lawyers and promote greater workplace flexibility in law firms since 1997. Prior to joining the Center for Women in Law, Linda was the Assistant Director of the Project for Attorney Retention, an initiative of The Center for WorkLife Law of the University of California Hastings College of the Law.

Maggie Cheu currently serves as Editor in Chief of the Texas Journal of Women and the Law and Staff Editor for the American Journal of Criminal Law. In addition, she is an Event Coordinator for the American Constitutional Society and has served as a member of the Executive Board of the Assault Survivor’s Assistance Program. In 2012, Maggie received the Pro Bono Superstar award from the Pro Bono Program for 900 hours of pro bono service. Maggie graduates the University of Texas School of Law in May of 2013, and upon graduation will take a position at the Queens District Attorney’s Office in New York.

Professor Banaji will speak at the Four Seasons from 2:35 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. on the research behind her new book, Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People. Using the revolutionary test she co-developed (the Implicit Association Test), Professor Banaji will demonstrate how subtle biases influence interactions with other attorneys and judges, efforts to persuade juries, and the perceptions of our clients and witnesses. Professor Banaji’s talk will be followed by a Q&A session.

Professor Banaji was elected fellow of the Society for Experimental Psychologists in 2005, and in 2009 she was named Herbert A. Simon Fellow of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. She is also a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Association for Psychological Science, of which she was President. In the past Banaji demonstrated her devotion to undergraduate and graduate education by serving as Director of Undergraduate Studies at Yale and as Head Tutor at Harvard, as well as by winning Yale’s Lex Hixon Prize for Teaching Excellence.

Professor Banaji received her bachelor of the arts degree from Nizam College and her master of the arts in Psychology from Osmania University in Hyderabad. In 1986, she received her Ph.D. from Ohio State University, and she later became an NIH postdoctoral fellow at University of Washington.

Held every two years, the Women’s Power Summit is one of the most significant gatherings of women attorneys in the country. Featured speakers this year include Harvard University professor Mahzarin Banaji, judge for the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts Nancy Gertner, and president of the American Bar Association Laurel Bellows. Additional speakers include United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit Judge Carolyn King and Former United States Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. Attendance is limited to general counsel, management-level partners, judges, government officials, law school deans, state bar presidents, and thought leaders.

The Women in Law Institute is a limited enrollment, all-day, intensive workshop for second and third-year law students, judicial clerks, and LL.M. students. Participants will hear speakers Karen Lockwood, Victoria Pynchon, and Diane Darling lecture on the essential skills for navigating a successful career in law, including effective communication, self-promotion, and networking. Following each lecture, students will work in small groups led by distinguished faculty to perfect these skills through practice and individualized critiques.

The National Law Journal named Linda as one of only seventeen women on their most recent list of “100 Most Influential Lawyers in America.” In 2009, the American Bar Association awarded her the Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award, a prestigious honor given to women lawyers who have excelled in their field and paved the way to success for other women lawyers.
