Susan L. Blount is executive vice president and general counsel of Prudential Financial, Inc. She has served as general counsel since 2005. She is responsible for the company’s 700 person global law, compliance, business ethics, and external affairs (LCBE) organization. Blount is a member of Prudential’s Office of the Chairman Group, the six senior-most officers of the company.
Blount joined Prudential’s Law Department in 1985 as an attorney in the company’s commercial real estate operations. During her career at Prudential, Blount has held a variety of leadership positions in the Law Department, including chief investment counsel and vice president and secretary for the Company through the period of Prudential’s demutualization in late 2001.
In recent years, Prudential’s Law Department has been recognized as an Employer of Choice by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, a Legal Department of the Year by the New Jersey Law Journal, and the Corporate Law Department of the Year by the NJ Hispanic Association. It has received special recognition by the New York City Bar Association’s Committee on the Recruitment and Retention of Lawyers, and LCBE’s Diversity Council was honored by the Association of Diversity Councils.
Prior to joining Prudential, Blount was an associate at the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis.
She is a member of the Board of Trustees of Montclair State University, The ProBono Partnership and NJ LEEP, Inc. (Law and Education Empowerment Project). She is a member of the University of Texas Law School Foundation, and she is a Founder of the Center for Women in Law at the University of Texas. Blount has served on the faculty of Stanford University’s Director’s College for the last four years.
Blount graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in history and a J.D., with honors.
