Francés Jones

Francés Jones is General Counsel and SVP Business Affairs for Areté Studios, Inc. where she advises on all aspects of the company’s business including on matters regarding online, mobile, interactive, and multi-platform content primarily for advertising agencies. Areté Studios is an Orlando, FL based media communications company that specializes in the development of original, branded, multicultural, multi-platform content that develops deep consumer engagement with the 18 to 34 year old consumer.  In developing its transmedia properties, Areté Studios employs an innovative model of content creation which tosses aside the traditional approach resulting in a superior entertainment property delighting both consumers and advertising agencies alike.

Francés is also Principal and Managing Attorney of the Law Firm of Francés Jones, “a select company where soul matters” ®, based in Austin, TX, where she maintains her private practice primarily for her nonprofit clients “Sweet Honey In The Rock” and for other work which she continues to do in the community.  In addition, Francés is the Founder and Executive Producer of Soul Matters Media Group International, “a select company where soul matters” ®, also based in Austin, TX.

Prior to Areté Studios, Inc., Francés served as Chief Counsel, Global Consumer / Chief Counsel/Head of Legal for hibu plc (formerly Yell Group plc) / Yell Connect, LLC / and Znode, Inc. — Responsible for launching the new global consumer division of a publicly traded UK company, launching new B2B and B2C digital media products and services in the U. S., Latin America, Spain, and the U.K; Transforming the business from being a leading supplier of print and online advertising for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to being a leader in the emerging local eMarketplace for consumers and SMEs and a leading provider of SME digital services (marketing services, co-branded affinity cards, payment services, business operations, and government access services); Offering social, local, ecommerce, and mobile capabilities; Launched eMarketplace, Online Stores/ Ecommerce Stores, hyper local magazines, and mobile applications; Also advised on print and internet advertising matters, HR, sales, procurement, consumer protection and consumer facing agreements, terms and conditions of use, campus initiative, loyalty initiative, user generated content, ratings and reviews, U.S. Hispanic and Latin American initiatives, privacy, data protection, technology, software licensing, and IP acquisitions; Also negotiated and drafted strategic partnership agreements with Bazaarvoice, Shopkick, Scribe Software, etc.

A graduate of New York University School of Law, Ms. Frances Jones is a senior executive with over 20 years of global expertise in business & legal affairs, marketing, operations, strategic planning, and management, working with major Wall Street law firms and international entertainment and media companies. She’s had substantial experience analyzing, structuring, negotiating, drafting, and reviewing a broad range of domestic and international commercial transactions. Ms. Jones began her career on Wall Street as a corporate & securities associate with Cahill Gordon & Reindel, and was formerly Regional Director of Client Services & Business Affairs for Univision Communications, Legal Affairs Attorney for PolyGram Records, Director of Business Affairs for the Zomba Group / Jive Records / BMG (now Sony), and Assistant General Counsel for Green Mountain Energy Company. She is also a former Music Commissioner for the City of Austin, TX and initiated and coordinated the successful campaign for the 2008 Latin Grammys in Houston, TX.  Francés has handled contracts, trademarks, copyrights, digital media, advertising, technology, distribution, financing, recording, publishing, film, soundtracks, licensing, literary publishing, merchandising, marketing, branding, and corporate matters involving parties such as Miramax Films, Simon & Schuster, Showtime, HBO, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Will Smith, Nancy Wilson, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Vanessa Williams, Miles Davis, Harcourt Brace, Leo Burnett Advertising, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Sony, MTV, ABC, and Nickelodeon.

Ms. Jones has in-depth knowledge and experience in the areas of advertising, marketing, media (especially digital and mobile), and entertainment, as well as in technology, intellectual property, corporate, consumer, broadcasting, promotions, regulatory, sales, HR/employment, and community & governmental affairs.
Francés currently serves on the Board of the Computer and Technology Council for the State Bar of Texas. She is licensed in New York, New Jersey, and Texas. A native of Corpus Christi, TX, she is the proud mom of a beautiful three year old daughter, Ruth Francés Saskia Soleil Jones.
