Real Cases. Real Experience.
The goal of the Clinic is to prepare students to be practice-ready lawyer-mediators. Students mediate disputes between real people, mostly in cases referred for mediation by local small claims courts. Students interview the disputants, arrange for the mediations, prepare for and conduct mediations. In addition, students work collaboratively on a class project that addresses developing issues in mediation; the assignment for the class project varies semester to semester. Class meetings focus on mediation, communication, and problem-solving skills and on ethical challenges facing lawyer-mediators.
