Are you an alumnus of The University of Texas School of Law who is considering a career change? Relocating and looking for a new job? Reentering the job market due to downsizing and/or layoffs? The Career Services Office (CSO) welcomes you to take advantage of the many resources we have to offer our alumni including the use of our CSO Resource Library, which contains numerous reference guides and research materials to aid in your job search.

We encourage you to use the following online resources. If you are seeking employment within a particular job sector, we encourage you to also visit our Career Path pages as each sector has specific links to job search resources, including fellowship opportunities.

  • UT Law Graduate Job Bank: Recent graduates (i.e., those who have graduated in the past year) can access the Graduate Job Bank on UT Law Symplicity free of charge for up to one year after graduation. In addition, we are extending the job bank at no cost to UT Law graduates from the Class of 2008 until December 31, 2009. All other UT Law alumni can request a six-month subscription for $10.
  • UT Law Mentor Directory: If you are currently listed as a mentor, you may also search the Mentor Directory for fellow alumni who may offer information on a wide range of topics, from career paths to job search advice, diverse geographic locations to job market trends.
  • Online Career & Job Search Resources: Below are just a few of the resources that may be useful to you in your job search -
    • AccessUT: UT-Austin's campus-wide job bank available to alumni and students.
    • Intercollegiate Job Bank: Lists graduate job bulletins from more than 110 law schools throughout the U.S.
    • Leadership Library on the Internet (a.k.a. Yellow Books): updated daily, this unique personnel contact database enables you to reach 400,000 individuals at 40,000 leading U.S. government, judicial, business, professional, and nonprofit organizations.
    • Legal Associations Directories: This site has links to various lawyer associations and bar associations in the U.S. and worldwide. Many of these sites may offer access to free or low-cost job banks.
    • Martindale.com: Martindale offers the most comprehensive listings of law offices in the world. Through the Lawyer Locator, you can search the database for UT Law alumni, all law firms in a particular city, firms with a particular practice area, and more.
    • NALP Directory of Legal Employers: The NALP Directory of Legal Employers is the most widely used directory in legal recruiting. It includes information on more than 1,600 employers nationwide. To download mail merge lists free of charge, please contact the CSO with your working e-mail address at csojobs@law.utexas.edu.
    • PSLawNet: UT Law is a founding member of this valuable resource for finding job opportunities in the public service sector. PSLawNet contains an enormous database of job postings with public service employers such as legal service providers, public policy advocates, and government agencies. Opportunities include entry-level positions and postgraduate fellowships.
    • Vault Career Library: Vault offers carefully researched and continually updated "insider" information on more than 3,000 companies and 70 industries. (Called "edgy, fun reads" by Forbes.) The Vault Career Library is Vault’s best-selling collection of more than 80 career guides and employer profiles, including well-known titles such as the Vault Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms, Vault Guide to Government and Non-Profit Legal Employers, Quality of Life Rankings and much more. Vault also covers a wide range of industries from accounting to venture capital.
  • Legal Recruiters, Contract Attorney Agencies & Career Coaches: List of legal recruiters and contract attorney agencies within Texas and throughout the country. Also includes information about the International Coach Federation, which is the largest worldwide resource for those who are seeking a business or personal coach.
  • Reciprocity with other law schools: If you live outside of Austin, you may request reciprocity with other law school career offices so that you may use their facilities or possibly access their graduate job banks.
