A UT Law Degree opens doors at the most venerable firms in the nation, is valued in the chambers of the highest courts in the land, and is an asset to many of the nation's best and brightest public interest lawyers and academics.
The Career Services Office (CSO) assists students with their career goals by informing them of career options, providing job search strategies and resources, and connecting them with potential employers. With experienced counselors and a dedicated staff, the CSO offers one-on-one career counseling, organizes on-campus interviews and off-campus job fairs, sponsors resume workshops, invites speakers to address students on career-related topics, publishes career-related handbooks, maintains a resource library, and coordinates professional development workshops and panels for students seeking careers in a variety of settings.
The CSO is committed to supporting the many paths students can take with a law degree from UT Law.
Recruitment outside of Texas
In recent years, more than 30 percent of students secured postgraduate employment outside of Texas. The most prevalent out-of-state opportunities have been found in Washington, DC, California and New York. Over the past six years, UT Law graduates have secured employment in 43 states with particular success in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Virginia.
Nearly 70 percent of employer offices who participated in Fall 2008 OCI were from out of state and included law firms of all sizes, government agencies, and other public service employers.
Each year the CSO also participates in 27 job fairs, which are recruitment opportunities held nationwide, in cities such as Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington, DC.
