Career Counseling
COME SEE US

If you would like to meet with a career counselor, please stop by the CSO or call 512-232-1150 to schedule an appointment.

Our career counselors can help you navigate your job search and offer guidance to balancing the demands of finding a job while in law school. Each one of our counselors has a J.D., has practiced law, and specializes in counseling students interested in working in the government, law firm, judicial, corporate or public interest sector as well as pursuing alternative careers.

Students may schedule a one-on-one counseling session with any of our career counselors, with 1Ls being able to schedule an appointment beginning November 1 of their first semester. Our career counselors can provide:

  • Critique of your resume and cover letters;
  • Information about career options;
  • Advice on how to tailor your job search to fit your goals;
  • Information on mentors and other practitioners who may provide excellent sources of advice;
  • Mock interviews;
  • Strategies for maximizing your chances of being selected for interviews;
  • Customized employer lists based on practice area, geographic area, and/or size of employer;
  • Contact and deadline information for public service fellowships and judicial clerkships;
  • Advice on how to overcome road blocks along the way to employment;
  • Supportive and objective feedback.

We encourage you to establish an on-going working relationship with us for the duration of your job search.  Let us know what your career objectives are so we can best assist you.
