The Ann (Townes) and Browne B. Rice, Jr. Scholarship Program is a program designed to support outstanding law students with full tuition and fees plus a stipend for all three years at The University of Texas School of Law. Scholarships are awarded solely on the basis of merit without regard to financial need. Rice Scholars are assured of continuing support for all three years of law school.
Eight entering freshlaw students will be offered this scholarship each year. Scholarships are awarded to residents and nonresidents, but preference is given to Texas residents. Students interested in the highly competitive Rice Scholarship are strongly urged to apply for Early Decision Admission by November 1 (See page 39). All applicants are automatically considered, and no separate application for the scholarship is necessary.
Candidates for the Townes-Rice Scholarship are strongly encouraged to submit letters of recommendation and any other additional information that would assist the Scholarship Committee in evaluating the applicant's file.
Scholarship amounts range from $1,000 to $25,000 per academic year, and are awarded based on scholastic merit and/or financial need. Students who receive these scholarships will either be notified by letter, or will find the scholarship listed on the Financial Aid Notification (FAN) letter from OSFS.
Scholarships received from sources outside the Law School will be included as resources available when determining your financial aid package, and may affect the amounts of your federal aid awards. Contact the Law School Financial Aid Office if you will receive a scholarship from an outside source.
