FAFSA

You MUST complete the FAFSA www.fafsa.ed.gov to begin consideration for financial aid. The FAFSA is a free application and it can be released to several law schools at the same time. Our school code is 003658

Applicants are encouraged to apply for financial aid before they receive a final admission decision.  Financial aid information will be processed once an applicant has been admitted.

Priority deadline: March 31st

Completing your FAFSA by the priority deadline will ensure that you receive the BEST financial aid package available. The amount of your financial aid is based upon the information we receive from your FAFSA application.

Grants

In 2008-2009, the average annual need-based grant awarded was  $4,370 to Texas residents and $4,470 to non-residents. Loans this year the majority of our financial aid applicants qualified for Federal Loans− the average subsidized loan was $8,500 and the average unsubsidized loan amount was $12,000. These loans are not based upon your creditworthiness. The Graduate Plus Loan (and Private Loans), on the other hand, is based upon your creditworthiness. We strongly advise that you check your credit rating.

Scholarships

All admitted students  are automatically considered for scholarships. Scholarship awards  will range from $1,000 per year for all three years of law school up to tuition and fees for all three years of enrollment. Criteria for these scholarships may include merit criteria and financial need. For academic year 2008–2009, 80 percent of scholarship aid was merit/need-based.

International students admitted to the JD program will be considered for merit based scholarships. Questions regarding additional financial assistance should be directed to The University of Texas at Austin International Office.

If you are not offered a scholarship during your first year, you may still be considered for scholarships based on funding availability as a continuing student. prior to the beginning of your second and third year, you will be notified about our on-line financial aid application, which will enable you to be considered for all need-based and merit scholarships.
