1. How do I open a computer account and pay for services?
First, you need to set up and claim your EID. Once you have an EID, you will need an individual computer account (also known as an IF [individually funded] account) to use the computers in the Computer Learning Center (CLC). There are two ways to get an individual account:
All fee-based services (with the exception of the Telesys dial-up service) Technology Services must be paid in advance with Bevo Bucks.
You can open your Bevo Bucks account and deposit funds into your account
at the Bevo Bucks site.
Additional information on your individual account is available online.
2. What's the difference between my EID and my individual account?
An EID is an electronic identifier used to verify your identification for
access to secure services on University computers. An individual account functions
as a billing mechanism for any fee-based computer services you use.
3. How do I change my individual account password?
You will need to retain your 'original' password (that is, the password assigned to your individual account the first time you received your account number) to authorize any additional services such as Telesys access. Each of the services you have authorized against your account can, and should for security reasons, have a different password.
To change your login password, use a computer in the CLC and click
on the 'Password' button on the toolbar labelled 'Logout, Printing & Help'
and follow the screen prompts.
To change your e-mail password, call the ITS Help Desk at 475-9400..
To change your Telesys password, call the ITS Help Desk at 475-9400.
4. How do I login/logout on CLC computers?
Your login name is the login that you were given when you applied for an
individual account. These IDs begin with the letters "if". Your initial password
was displayed when you set up your individual account.
To logout, click on the 'Logout' button on the toolbar labeled 'Logout, Printing
& Help.'
5. What can I use my individual account for?
Besides authorizing you to use the computers in the CLC, your individual account allows you to print on the networked printers. You may also authorize your account for Telesys access (Telesys is the University's high-speed modem bank used to connect home computers with the Internet) and UNIX and/or Windows Enterprise access for Web publishing.
6. How do I get an e-mail account?
For a full explanation of the University Mailbox Service (UMBS), go to: http://www.utexas.edu/its/umbs/.
Alternatively, you can use the university's Webmail service, that allows you
to check your UT email with any web browser. Incoming students may activate
their UMBS account upon admittance to the Law School.
Microsoft Exchange accounts, providing integrated e-mail and calendaring
services using Microsoft Outlook, are available through the Austin Exchange Messaging Service.
7. How much do these services cost?
There is no charge for an individual account per se, but some services authorized through your account incur charges.
Printing costs $0.10 per page; credits are allowed only for mangled print jobs. Printing is debited against your Bevo Bucks account.
There is no charge for Westlaw and LEXIS print jobs sent to the stand-alone printers.
Telesys costs $10. a month; you are assessed this charge whether or not you use Telesys once you have authorized your account for Telesys access. You must pay for your Telesys account through the What-I-Owe page within 24 hours of activation or your account will be turned off.
Disk storage on the student file server known as Webspace is free for the first 150MB of data. Use Webspace to store and share word processing files or any other data files. Your file locker is accessible from any computer with an Internet connection.
E-mail using UMBS is free.
Austin Exchange Messaging Service accounts cost $13. per year for 150MB of disk storage.
