To access the wireless network, you will need an 802.11b or 802.11g-compatible wireless Ethernet adapter (also called Wi-Fi compliant) and a UT EID.All network settings are obtained via DHCP. The Law Library has three laptop computers equipped with wireless Ethernet adapters for loan, as well as five Cisco Aironet wireless card for use with personally owned laptops.

Wireless connections are also available to law students throughout the UT campus.2. The Computer Learning Center
The Computer Learning Center (CLC) is the student computing facility for the School of Law. It is located on the fifth floor of the Law Library in TNH 5.221. Only registered law students are authorized to use the facility. TheComputer Learning Center consists of a lab and an adjoining classroom used for online training and Law School classes requiring the use of computers. The classroom is open for general use when a class is not in session.
The hours for the CLC are posted on the CLC website.
a. What hardware is available in the CLC?
Eighty-two networked computers are available for student use. The lab, classroom, and designated carrels outside of the lab contain Pentium 4 PCs running the Windows XP operating system. All PCs are equipped with CD-RW/DVD drives and floppy disk drives. Computers located in the classroom are also equipped with Zip drives. An HP scanner and attached PC with optical character recognition software are available for use in the lab.
In addition, three e-mail stations are located on a kiosk behind the catalog kiosks on the 2nd floor of the Law Library. These machines are reserved for law student use in checking e-mail.
Headphones may be checked out at the CLC Help Desk with a UT ID.
b. What software applications are available in the CLC?
Applications include:
- work processing (MS Word XP, WordPerfect for Windows 10);
- presentation software (PowerPoint);
- spreadsheets (Excel);
- database software (MS Access);
- e-mail (Eudora);
- various Internet applications (telnet, FTP, Netscape Communicator, Internet Explorer);
- HTML composition software (FrontPage);
- and computer-assisted legal research applications (Westlaw, LEXIS, LOISLAW, CALI, Authority from Matthew Bender, CCH Tax Research Network, CCH Business and Finance Network).
The scanner workstation in the lab is equipped with optical character recognition software (OmniPage Pro) and Adobe Acrobat.
c. How do I print documents in the CLC?
You may select one of the following printers from CLC computers:
LAWCLC_CLW ($0.80 per page): a color laser printer located in the Help Desk area.
LAWCLC_CLW_TRANS ($1.60 per transparency): a color transparency printer located in the Help Desk area.
LAWCLC_LW ($0.10 per page): laser printers located in the Help Desk area. Your print job will be placed on the table in front of the printer room for you to pick up. Your individual computer account will appear on a banner page.
LAWCLC_SPEC ($0.10 per page): a laser printer located on the east side of the lab for printing envelopes and résumés on special stationery. You must supply your own stationery for this printer.
LAWFLR2_LW ($0.10 per page): a laser printer located next to the circulation desk on the 2nd floor of the library.
LAWFLR4_LW ($0.10 per page): a laser printer located in the 4th floor student lounge area.
Both LAWFLR2 and LAWFLR4 are intended primarily for printing from notebooks connected to the wired/wireless network. You must install both the WinPOPS Remote Printing software and the Lexmark printer drivers to print to this printer from your laptop. Both are available at no charge from the Bevoware site.You must have an active Bevo Bucks account will funds deposited to print to any of the above printers.
Printouts from Westlaw and LEXIS are sent to designated printers near the Help Desk. There is no charge for printing on the designated printers. Your name will appear on the banner page. Printouts are arranged alphabetically by name in the document racks located next to the east entrance to the lab. Printouts not picked up within three days will be discarded.
