A. Mechele Dickerson is a nationally recognized bankruptcy law scholar and a global media expert on consumer debt. She is the author of Homeownership and America's Financial Underclass: Flawed Premises, Broken Promises, New Prescriptions. Her research focuses on student loans and other consumer debt, income inequality, and the financial challenges of the middle class in the US.
Professor Dickerson joined the faculty in January 2006 and served as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 2006-2011. She teaches Remedies, Federal Civil Procedure, and Economic Justice at the law school and teaches a freshman seminar for the University (Good Debt, Bad Debt, Ugly Debt).
Professor Dickerson clerked for Hon. (ret.) Nathaniel R. Jones and practiced law in Washington, D.C. and Norfolk, Virginia before joining the law faculty at the College of William and Mary. Professor Dickerson is an elected member of the American Law Institute.
