Areas of Specialty

A. Mechele Dickerson became a member of the faculty in January 2006. She served as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 2006-2011.

Professor Dickerson is a nationally recognized bankruptcy scholar. Her current research focuses on the US housing crisis and international consumer financial services. Professor Dickerson was honored to be the 2007 recipient of the Texas Exes Faculty Teaching Award for excellence in teaching. Professor Dickerson teaches Remedies, Federal Civil Procedure, and Economic Justice.

After graduating from law school, she clerked for Judge Nathaniel R. Jones of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She then practiced law in Washington, D.C. and Norfolk, Virginia. Professor Dickerson previously was a member of the law faculty at the College of William and Mary and during her tenure there received two teaching awards. Professor Dickerson is an elected member of the American Law Institute.
