Lucy Wood teaches in the Nonprofit/Government and Legislative Externship Programs. She has worked in the field of disability rights since her receipt of the Skadden Fellowship in 2000. Prior to joining the faculty in 2010, she managed the Austin-based regional office of Disability Rights Texas, where she represented persons with disabilities in civil rights cases involving communication access, special education, employment, housing, health, juvenile, and family law issues. Before commencing her practice, Wood served as a law clerk to United States District Court Judge William Wayne Justice.

Wood was named a "Rising Star" by Texas Monthly in the years 2004, 2006, and 2007. She is a recipient of the Travis County Women Lawyers Association Public Interest Award (2007) and the Excellence in Public Interest Award given by Texas Law Fellowships (2007). A certified sign language interpreter since 2004, she enjoys lecturing on topics related to law and deafness, including the legal rights of persons who are deaf and hard-of-hearing and the interpretation of legal discourse from English to American Sign Language.
