Victor Ferreres is professor of Spanish Constitutional Law at Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona, Spain). Since 2001, he is also a professor of Spanish Constitutional Law and European Union Law at the Judiciary School (this is the institution where judges are trained in Spain). He studied law at the University of Barcelona, and at the Yale Law School, where he wrote a doctoral dissertation on "Judicial Review and Democracy" (1996). He has been in the United States several times as a visiting professor, at the Law Schools of NYU (spring 2001 and 2003), and University of Texas (spring 2005). He has written two books in Spanish ("Justicia constitucional y democracia", 1997, and "El principio de taxatividad en materia penal", 2002), and several articles. His most recent articles in English were published in I.CON, The International Journal of Constitutional Law (2004) and The Texas Law Review (2004). His principal research interests are the foundations of constitutional review, the role of Constitutional Courts in Europe, the theory of fundamental rights, freedom of speech and equality.
