William P. Allison is a Clinical Professor of Law, Director of the Criminal Defense Clinic and Co-director of the Actual Innocence Clinic at the University Of Texas School Of Law. Prior to joining the faculty full-time, Mr. Allison practiced law in Austin, Texas, for thirty-two years. For twenty-seven of those years he was a supervising attorney in the Criminal Defense Clinic. He is a Board Certified Specialist in Criminal Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. From 1995-2002, Mr. Allison taught a seminar entitled "Franz Kafka and the Systems of Punishment" in the Plan II Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Allison has also taught over fifty trial advocacy courses for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy and numerous law schools and other organizations across the nation. Until June, 1999, he served as Editor-in-Chief of Voice for the Defense, the magazine of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America; was honored by the State Bar of Texas as Outstanding Criminal Defense Lawyer of the Year, 2000-2001, and was selected as a "Super Lawyer" by Texas Monthly Magazine before retiring from private practice. Mr. Allison grew up in Beaumont, Texas, graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee and from the University Of Texas School Of Law in 1971. He is a retired United States Naval officer.
