A related bonus of a plain language style is the potential for reducing mistakes. Traditional legal language tends to hide inconsistencies and ambiguities. Errors are harder to find in dense and convoluted prose. Here's a funny phrase I heard last week: "Let's not break the wheel." I think the speaker got tangled up in two sayings, "If it's not broken, don't fix it" and "Let's not reinvent the wheel."
