A related bonus of a plain language style is the potential for reducing mistakes. Traditional legal language tends to hide inconsistencies and ambiguities. Errors are harder to find in dense and convoluted prose. These are both nouns turned into gerunds, rather than actually being used as verbs.
I think "document versioning" is here to stay; it fills a niche. I don't expect tolerating it will lead to "version" beings used as a verb. "Version that document before you close the program."? Nah. It just doesn't work.
But "efforting"? Even if "trying" were too plain, the thesaurus provides plenty of fancy-pants alternatives: "attempting," "endeavoring," "undertaking," or even "struggling."
And let's not even imagine "effort" being used as a verb.

"Versioning" came in an email from an IT person here at the law school.
"Efforting" I heard in speech on a radio talk show.
According to Microsoft:
"Document versioning allows you to keep multiple versions of a document. If a change needs to be reversed, you can restore the previous version and continue working. . . ."
Oh yeah - document versioning is big. (Although I see that Firefox's spell check tagged it.) Try a corpus search (viz., Google) and see how many hits you get.
It's a huge field in the IT world - "revision control"...
