The financial aid process begins with the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is the application which the University uses to determine eligibility for federal, state, and institutional awards such as loans, grants, and need-based scholarships. The best way to complete the FAFSA is on-line, at FAFSA on the Web.
The priority deadline for financial aid is March 15th. FAFSA applications received by that date will ensure students the best possible financial aid awards available. Grant funds, in particular, are limited and may become exhausted later in the process.
Once the University has received a student's FAFSA information and any required verification documents, the University will send an Electronic Financial Aid Notification (EFAN) by e-mail. The EFAN will list all eligible awards. Students can view their awards and must respond by the deadline listed on their letter. Students can accept or decline the awards offered, and/or reduce the loan amounts offered.
Students receiving Law School Scholarships will find them listed on their EFAN under Additional Student Resources.
In addition to submitting the FAFSA, some scholarship and financial aid programs have specific requirements before awards can be disbursed. See the CASH site for more information.
All scholarship recipients must confirm/update their TAX ID# information here in order to receive their scholarships.
Our Law School Scholarship offers require you to bring a signed thank you letter(s) to the Law School Financial Aid Office TNH 2.125. Copies may be sent by e-mail to email@example.com , mail or delivered in person to our office in room TNH 2.125
Loan programs require first time borrowers at The University of Texas School of Law to sign promissory notes, undergo loan entrance counseling, and/or in some cases, most notably private loans, complete a separate loan application. To complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) log into CASH "What do I need to Complete?" page and follow the instructions.
The Law School will be able to release student funds after all requirements have been met. Funds will be released no earlier than ten days before the start of each semester.
All tuition and fee notifications will be sent to a student’s current e-mail address. It is the student’s responsibility to maintain a current e-mail address. The University is not responsible for e-mail messages returned because of full mailbox, spam filters, or "User Unknown." (See the official policy for additional information.)
All students are required to pay their tuition and fee bills before any financial aid will release. See the My Tuition Bill page on UT Direct to access this information. Tuition and fee bills can be deferred to expected financial aid (excluding law school scholarships).
After tuition and fees are paid, any excess funds will be sent to the student, either by mail to their local address or directly deposited into their bank account. Students may complete an authorization form to set up electronic funds transfers (including payment and deposits). Forms are available to be submitted online or download a printable document to complete.
