The State of Our Union:
The Debate Over Same-Sex Marriage

March 24, 2005, Eidman Courtroom

The Texas Journal on Civil Liberties and Civil Rights (TJCLCR) at the University of Texas School of Law is proud to present its annual spring symposium on Thursday, March 24, 2005. This year’s event will address one of the most popular topics in American life today – same-sex marriage. The issue of same-sex marriage has been given an increased amount of attention in the United States in recent months on both the state and federal level. We see this as the perfect chance to present a forum for the debate to educate the public and spark a well-informed discussion on the issues. To achieve these goals, we have invited a broad array of speakers. Our symposium will include panel discussions focusing on the role of religion and morality in the debate, the current status of same-sex marriage under the Texas legal system, a luncheon panel on the adoption process in same-sex marriages, various approaches toward the debate within the realm of international law, and American constitutional issues involving same-sex marriage.

The Symposium is, of course, free to the public. There is a registration fee for CLE credit which can be paid at the event. The $50 fee will provide 7.5 hours of credit. Please RSVP for luncheon (during the Symposium) at: tjclcr@law.utexas.edu. The schedule for the day is as follows:
