Book Review:
Benjamin F. Wright, Reviewing Carl B. Swisher’s The Taney
Period, 1836-64, 53 TEXAS L. REV. 414 (1975).
Abstract:
In the fifth volume of the History of the Supreme Court, Mr.
Swisher gives a detailed account of the major and minor cases
that came before the Court during the Taney period. According to
the reviewer, The Taney Period, along with the other volumes of
the History, will set a new standard for the study of the
Supreme Court. The reviewer notes several omissions and
oversights, but concludes that critical comments are
insignificant compared with the immense attention to detail
exhibited in this “impressive” volume.
