Comment:
Stephen R. Akers, The Living Will: Already A Practical Alternative, 55 TEXAS L. REV. 665 (1976).

Abstract:
Following California’s lead, many states are now considering legislation to allow a terminally ill patient to choose a dignified death without senselessly prolonged artificial maintenance. The living will, however, presents an alternative already available. This comment analyzes the practicalities of using living wills even without special legislation. Without necessarily urging widespread use of living will, the author concludes that a living will has a profoundly persuasive effect on the patient’s family and physician. Drafting and planning suggestions are included along with a Model Living Will to aid attorneys in providing their clients with currently effective and precise living wills.
