Book Review: John Phillip Reid, A Plot Too Doctrinaire
(reviewing Morton J. Horwitz’s The Transformation of American Law,
1780-1860), 55 TEXAS L. REV. 1307 (1977). Horwitz’s work is a comprehensive study of American private law prior to the Civil War. Professor Reid praises Horwitz’s original contribution to American legal history; the book not only serves as an invaluable research tool, but also provides a keen insight into the complex variables affecting the synthesis of American law. Reid’s only mild criticism of The Transformation of American Law is for its overly broad scope. |
