Book Review:
Charles Alan Wright, The Supreme Court: Facts & Figures,
reviewing “The Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court: Their Lives
and Major Opinions Vol. V The Burger Court, 1969-1978 edited by
Leon Friedman and “The First One Hundred Justices: Statistical
Studies on the Supreme Court of the United States” by Albert P.
Blaustein and Roy M. Mersky, 57 Texas L. Rev. 1283 (1979).
Abstract:
Professor Wright concludes that Vol 5 has a few solid and useful
appraisals of its subjects, but the majority are powdery and
pedestrian. He finds that where analysis is attempted it is
often of dubious quality. However, the reaction to the Mersky
and Blaustein book is considerably more favorable – the book, he
finds, is full of useful coordinated information and adds to our
knowledge about those who have served the court.
