Book Review:
David A.J. Richards, Insanity and Criminal Justice
(reviewing Norval Morris’ Madness and the Criminal Law), 61
TEXAS L. REV. 1557 (1983).
Abstract:
Morris’ Madness and the Criminal Law deals generally with the
disconnection between the standards of legal and moral guilt.
Richards examines this proposition, as well as Morris’ attack on
the insanity defense and his proposed theory of just sentencing.
Richards concludes that, like Morris’ previous works, Madness
and the Criminal Justice is a valuable contribution to criminal
justice scholarship. He praises Morris’ careful use of argument
and evidence, and notes that the particularly intriguing element
of the book is its treatment of the human heart and conscience.
