Note:

Betsey Chestney, The Right to Know One’s Genetic Origin: Can, Should, or Must a State That Extends This Right to Adoptees Extend an Analogous Right to Children Conceived Using Donor Gametes?, 80 TEXAS L. REV. 365 (2001).

Abstract:

This Note examines recent statutes in Oregon and Tennessee that give adoptees the right to discover the identity of their birth parents and further examines unsuccessful challenges to these statutes.  This Note then presents the argument that because of similarities between donor offspring—created from donated gametes—and adoptees, as a policy matter, donor offspring should also have the right to discover their donor parents.
