Professor Barbara Bintliff to participate as legal information expert at Congressional conference

Barbara Bintliff, Joseph C. Hutcheson Professor in Law at the University of Texas School of Law, will participate as a legal information expert at a conference for secretaries general from regional, national, and sub-national parliaments from around the world, “Achieving Greater Transparency in Legislatures through the Use of Open Document Standards.”  The conference, sponsored by the United Nations, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and the U.S. House of Representatives, will be in Washington, D.C. on February 27–29, 2012, at the U.S. Congress.  The purpose of the conference is “to advance the policy dialog and foster technical cooperation among parliaments that are publishing legislative materials electronically.”  Bintliff’s work with the Uniform Law Commission on the development of the Uniform Electronic Legal Material Act, which provides for authentication and permanent access to digital legal material, as well as her speaking and advocacy on this topic and on evolving international standards, led to her invitation to the conference.
