UT Tower lit for Law School’s 2012–2013 national championship interscholastic teams April 22, 2013
On Monday, April 22, 2013, the University of Texas lit the Tower burnt orange in honor of the Law School’s 2012-2013 national championship teams. Two interscholastic teams have won national championships already this year, and a third has won a regional championship.
The John L. Costello National Criminal Law Trial Advocacy team (Will Clark, Maryssa Simpson, Alex Hughes, and alternate Brandan Montminy, all class of 2013) won the national title in February. This is the second time in three years UT Law has won the national championship in this competition. The team was coached by Jay Adkins, ’82, assistant attorney general in the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the Texas Office of the Attorney General, and Marjorie Bachman, ’05, of the Law Office of E.G. Morris. The Giles Sutherland Rich Memorial Moot Court team (Colleen Bloss, ’13, and Yingying Zeng, ’14) also won a national championship this past weekend, and joined the Costello team in front of the tower Monday evening. Their team was coached by Shalla Sluyter, ’06, deputy parliamentarian of the Texas House of Representatives, and Meredith Fitzpatrick, ’07, of Daffer McDaniel LLP.
The American Association for Justice Student Trial Advocacy Competition team (Colleen Bloss, Coulter Goodman, Stephen Green, and Brandan Montminy, all Class of 2013) also won a regional championship and advanced to semi-finals in the national competition. They are being coached by Sarah Munson of the Office of the Attorney General and Christine Nishimura, ’12, of Disability Rights Texas.
The national champions had their photo taken in front of the Littlefield Fountain at sunset on April 22, 2013.
