Dallas, Houston Named Among Top Five Cities for Young Attorneys

The October 2000 issue of The National Jurist has identifed Houston and Dallas as two of the top five cities in the nation for young attorneys. The study was based upon consideration of attorney salaries adjusted for cost-of-living, housing costs, dining and cultural opportunities, commuting time, and crime rates. Houston ranked 2nd, and Dallas 5th. UT Law grads, of course, dominate large firm practice in both cities.

In addition, two other cities with large contingents of UT law alumni placed in the top five: Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles. (A 1997 study found that UT Law grads ranked 6th for representation at the top firms in D.C., and 14th for representation at the top firms in Los Angeles.)

Dean Bill Powers observed, "It seems unlikely there is any law school in the nation with stronger connections to so many of the most attractive legal markets for young attorneys."
