On Wednesday, September 20, the Texas Supreme Court will hear oral argument in the Eidman Courtroom. Argument will begin at 9 AM and should continue until about 12:00. The Court will then hold a short question and answer session.
You are encouraged to attend. However, there will be security and a dress code. You may not bring backpacks into the courtroom, and you will go through a metal detector. Shorts, t-shirts and caps are not allowed. You may not enter or leave the courtroom except during breaks between arguments.
There will be an overflow room (to be announced) where you can watch the arguments via live video feed.
5 total cases will be heard, though three of those will heard together. The cases are:
1. Texas Department of Public Safety v. Petta (sovereign immunity)
2. St. Joseph Hospital v. Wolff (medical
malpractice, comparative responsibility)
Court of Appeals opinion: 999 S.W.2d 579 (Tex.App.--Austin 1999)
The following will be argued together: (sovereign immunity)
3. General Services Commission v. Little-Tex
Insulation
4. Texas Department of Transportation v. Aerotron
5. Texas A&M University v. Dalmac Construction
The last group will be allowed 50 minutes total instead of the usual 40 minutes.
