UT Law Professor, Alumni Named Among 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America by the National Law Journal

Charles Alan Wright, longtime law professor at The University of Texas, has been named as one of the 100 most influential lawyers in America by the National Law Journal in its June 12, 2000 issue. Professor Wright is one of only eleven professors representing eight schools--including Harvard, Stanford, Chicago, and Columbia--to make the list. The originator and co-author of the leading treatise on Federal Practice and Procedure (West, 52 volumes, 1969-1999), Professor Wright has argued, successfully, numerous times before the United States Supreme Court. Professor Wright is the first law professor to serve as President of the American Law Institute, and is an elected Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.

Also included are three distinguished UT Law School alumni:

Joseph D. Jamail, Jr., Class of '52, is the Founder and Owner of the Jamail & Kolius law firm in Houston. Perhaps best known as the famed trial attorney who won the landmark verdict in Pennzoil v. Texaco, Mr. Jamail has been lead counsel in over two hundred personal injury cases where recovery, either by verdict or settlement, was in excess of $1 million. Among his many honors, Mr. Jamail has been named The University of Texas Distinguished Alumnus and Outstanding Alumnus of The University of Texas School of Law. He is also a Life Trustee of The University of Texas Law School Foundation.

Reasoner, Class of '62, is Managing Partner of the Houston-based law firm of Vinson & Elkins, where his principal practice area is general litigation, including antitrust and securities litigation. Mr. Reasoner is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, International Academy of Trial Lawyers, International Society of Barristers, and American Bar Foundation. Honored as The University of Texas Distinguished Alumnus and Outstanding Alumnus of The University of Texas School of Law, Mr. Reasoner currently serves as President of the Board of Trustees for The University of Texas Law School Foundation.

Frederick M. Baron, Class of '71, is a Founding Partner in the Dallas-based law firm of Baron & Budd. Mr. Baron is a nationally recognized expert in the area of toxic and mass tort litigation, having written numerous published articles and papers on complex litigation, class actions, and toxic torts. A member of the American Law Institute, American Board of Trial Advocates, and the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, Mr. Baron is also Founder and Past President of Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, and currently serves as President Elect of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
