CSO Launches Online Legal Mentor Directory

Provides Students with a New Connection to Alumni

AUSTIN, Texas—The Career Services Office (CSO) at the UT School of Law has launched its online Legal Mentor Directory (http://www.utexas.edu/law/depts/career/resources/mentor.html). The online directory, with its searchable database, connects law students and recent graduates with alumni who can provide advice on career paths and other career-related topics.

"Our alumni are rich in their experience and I am pleased that this database will help connect students with one of the Law School's most valuable resources," said Kathryn Holt Richardson, Assistant Dean for Career Services.

In recent years, one of the CSO’s most significant and utilized career resources has been its Mentor Directory, a listing of UT Law alumni who are available to advise students on issues such as practice trends, geographic areas and other career-related topics.  Now, students can use their electronic passwords to access the online Mentor Directory, making it a secure environment for alumni to be listed.

After students log into the Directory, they can search for UT Law graduates based on name, location and/or practice area. Students will find each mentor’s professional contact information, as well as his or her year of graduation from UT Law, undergraduate school, and information about judicial clerkships held.

UT Law alumni that are interested in mentoring a student can sign up online at http://www.utexas.edu/law/depts/career/resources/mentor.html. For alumni, being a mentor is a way to make a commitment to the University and Law School by helping students and recent graduates avoid some of the pitfalls and perils commonly faced by new lawyers. It’s also a way for alumni to stay connected to the Law School and develop a chain of contact with students and other alumni that can be personally and professionally rewarding.

The CSO offers students numerous resources to assist in their career planning and job search, including career counseling, recruitment programs and seminars, a comprehensive library of job listings, employer recruiting literature, resume and self-assessment guides and other materials, and student and graduate job bulletins, which list job notices for students, recent graduates and experienced attorneys.
