AUSTIN, Texas The University of Texas School of Law announced today
that its alumni set records in both Annual Giving and overall giving for the
year ending August 31, 2001. Annual giving was up 30% to $1,300,000. Participation
was up from 22% to 32%. Overall giving was up to $10,500,000, the largest
amount in the history of the School. The Law School currently boasts an endowment
of $168 million dollars, making it the 7th largest law school endowment in
the United States.
"I offer my sincere thanks to each of our alumni and friends who took the time to fund these critical operations that have a positive impact on people around the world, in addition to our nation, to Texas and to our local communities. I also offer my appreciation to our many alumni volunteers and to the Alumni Association staff for their support. Thanks to all of you, we have demonstrated that we back up our core values not just with words, but with actions and resources," said Jim Derrick, '70. Derrick was President of the UT Law Alumni Association for this past fundraising year.
"We could not even consider going forward with renovations of our facilities, or recruiting and retaining the best faculty, or improving student life and our curriculum, without our alumni's generous support. Their philanthropy allows Texas to thrive, and we are very grateful," Dean Bill Powers said.
