Affirmative Action Symposium at the University of Texas School of Law
November 2, 2001: "Diversity on Trial: Grutter v. Bollinger"

AUSTIN, TX — The University of Texas School of Law's Texas Hispanic Journal of Law and Policy (THJLP) and Texas Review of Law and Politics (TROLP) are hosting a symposium, "Diversity on Trial: Grutter v. Bollinger" on Friday November 2, 2001 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Charles I. Francis Auditorium (Room 2.114) at the University of Texas School of Law.

Grutter v. Bollinger, the case challenging the use of affirmative action at the University of Michigan Law School, will be argued before the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in late November and will likely be heard by the Supreme Court. The University of Texas' affirmative action case, Hopwood, will not be heard by the Supreme Court, and if Grutter v. Bollinger does go before the Supreme Court it will provide the definitive ban or upholding of the use of affirmative action for the entire nation.

The discussion will present opinions both in support and against the use of affirmative action in higher education. Our confirmed speakers are important players on both sides of the Michigan Law School case.

A question and answer session will be conducted after speaker presentations. The symposium is open to the public and groups.

Please call 512-232-1395 for directions to the University of Texas School of Law.
