Law School Community invited to LBJ Library symposium; Access to Reagan papers debated
RSVP date: Friday, Nov. 16, 2001
AUSTIN, Texas The Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum invites the Law School community to attend "The Future of Presidential Libraries" symposium on November 26th and 27th.
Presidential historian Michael Bechloss will join David Eisenhower, H.W. Brands and other noted experts to discuss important issues related to Presidential papers, education, and the future of libraries.
One panel will discuss President George W. Bush's executive order issued Nov. 1 which allows a sitting president to prevent the release of a prior president's papers. The Reagan library was prepared to release 68,000 pages of records earlier this year. President Bush temporarily blocked the disclosure three times. This executive order allows President Bush to veto the release of documents even if the former president has approved it.
The Library, located across the street from the Law School, will issue tickets for those who plan to attend. If you are a member of the UT Law community and are interested, please contact Robert Hicks, Public Relations Manager for the LBJ Library and Museum at 916-5137, ext. 293, or via e-mail at robert@lbjlib.utexas.edu. Deadline: Friday, Nov. 16, 2002.
