AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Law Fellowships (TLF) at the University of Texas School of Law will host its annual Fall Auction at the Copper Tank Brewing Co. Thursday, Oct. 17, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The auction has traditionally gathered about 400 members of the Law School community to raise approximately $20,000 to fund fellowships for law students to do meaningful community legal work during the coming summer.

"The TLF Fall Auction is the highlight of the fall semester at the law school, and this year's auction will be the best ever," said TLF President Katherine Saunders, a third-year law student. "Through the incredible generosity of the Austin community and the legal community, we are able to have fun and raise money for a valuable cause at the same time!"

The Fall Auction is TLF's first fundraiser of the year. Professors, local businesses, and legal professionals have donated valuable items to be auctioned off to the highest bidder in both a live and silent auction. Some of the most popular donations are dinners of parties hosted by UT professors and local legal practitioners. The silent auction always offers fabulous items such as theatre tickets, golf outings, hotel stays and gift certificates to many fine Austin restaurants and stores. This year, donated items include a private bat-watching cruise, a one-night stay for two at the Stephen. F. Austin Hotel, a tie from U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett, and a free Bar-Bri Bar Review Course. Among the many professor donations are a signed copy of Dean Bill Powers' Torts book, and oil change by Prof. Mark Ascher, a pool party for 20 with Prof. Michael Sharlot, dinner for six at Prof. Larry Sager's house, an evening of pocket billiards for three with Prof. Lino Graglia, and a homemade cheesecake from Prof. Larry Garvin. (see a complete list of items here.)

The TLF Fall Auction is open to the public and everyone is invited to make a contribution to public interest law and enjoy a night out at the same time. The price of admission - $7 for students and $10 for non-students -includes three free pints of Copper Tank Beer, appetizers and a bid number. All purchases made at the auction are tax deductible. For more information, call the TLF office at (512) 232-1099, visit our website at http://www.utexas.edu/law/orgs/tlf/, or email: tlf@mail.law.utexas.edu. Tickets can be purchased prior to the event or at the door.

Texas Law Fellowships, founded sixteen years ago and run entirely by students, is a non-profit corporation dedicated to funding summer fellowships in public interest law. Last year, TLF raised over $110,000 largely from money donated by law students, faculty, and staff through the fall auction, a spring pledge drive and matching donations from students and law firms. With this money, TLF was able to sponsor 30 fellows who spent their summer working for organizations such as Texas Rural Legal Aid, the Women's Advocacy Project and the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights.

So far, TLF has collected over 50 donations from businesses around Austin, UT Law faculty and staff, and friends of the Law School for the Auction. Below are some of the donations collected as of October 9th. Every day, TLF receives more exciting donations on which people can bid.
