Steven Quiring, '02, Takes Second Place in Tannenwald Tax Scholarship Writing Competition

AUSTIN, Texas – Steven Quiring, a 2002 graduate of The University of Texas School of Law, took second prize in the Tannenwald Writing Competition which announced its awards this December. Quiring also received a $1,500 award for his paper, "Section 357 (c) and the Elusive Basis of the Issuer's Note."

The paper was selected as a winner by the prize's directors based on, among other factors, depth and creativity of legal analysis; thoroughness of legal research; organization and writing style; difficulty of subject matter; and consideration of tax policy implications.

The national competition is co-sponsored by the Theodore Tannenwald, Jr. Foundation for Excellence in Tax Scholarship, Inc., and the American College of Tax Counsel. The competition is open to all papers by law students on any tax-related topic. This year, the Foundation awarded one first prize to a student from the New York University School of Law and three second place prizes which went to students at Harvard Law School and the New York University School of Law, as well as to Quiring.

The Tax Program is one of the special strengths of The University of Texas School of Law. It's ranked consistently as one of the top 10 tax programs in the nation. For more information about the UT Law program in Tax, please visit: http://www.utexas.edu/law/academics/curriculum/taxtexas/ .
