COSTS: Free Students & Faculty; $50 Practicing Attorneys for CLE Credit (Late Registration Fee of $10 applies after March 14, 2003). Free General Public ($6 for lunch).

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Journal on Civil Liberties & Civil Rights (TJCLCR) at The University of Texas School of Law, in association with the Individual Rights Section of the State Bar of Texas, is hosting its annual symposium on March 19, 2003. The Symposium is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., with breakfast and lunch provided, and will offer 5.5 hours of CLE credit and 1 hour of ethics credit. Please contact the journal to register as seating is limited to 150.

To celebrate the 10th year of existence as Texas' only law journal devoted solely to civil liberties and civil rights issues, a fundraising banquet will also be held Wednesday evening featuring noted author and journalist Molly Ivins at the University of Texas Club from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. All speakers from the Symposium have been invited to attend the celebrations. Tickets are required and are available for $35 General; $20 Students. Tickets are $45 at the door. This event is open to the public. Please contact the journal for tickets as seating is limited to 150.

Topics for the 2003 Symposium on capital punishment will address recent developments in case law, death penalty legislation, executive clemency and the movement for a moratorium in Texas. The Symposium features distinguished speakers and panelists from around the country, including practicing attorneys, authors, students and activists all reputably involved with the defense of innocence. The TJCLCR hosts a symposium each Spring to encourage submission of articles to the journal and promote academic discussion in the latest topics of civil liberties and civil rights. The symposium is funded entirely by generous contributions from area law firms, organizations and individuals. The journal welcomes any contributions to its annual symposium effort. All donations are tax deductible and are used exclusively for symposium materials and activities.
