AUSTIN, Texas - Texas Law Fellowships (TLF) at The University of Texas School of Law will host its annual Fall Auction at the Copper Tank Brewing Co. at 5th and Trinity streets from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, October 16. The Austin Young Lawyers Association will co-sponsor a happy hour prior to the auction, from 5:30-6:30.

Texas Law Fellowships is a non-profit student organization that sponsors public interest fellowships for students at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law. Every year since 1986, TLF has raised money from the UT Law and Texas legal community to fund fellowships for UT Law students who work in public interest internships during the summer. Last year TLF raised over $100,000 which was used to sponsor 26 fellows who spent their summer working for organizations such as the Lawyer's Committee for Better Housing, Travis County Juvenile Public Defender, and Legal Aid Society.

The Fall Auction has traditionally gathered about 400 members of the Law School community to raise approximately $20,000 for fellowships. Professors, local businesses, and legal professionals donate valuable items to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Past live auction items have included a dinner for four prepared by a renowned constitutional expert, hotel stays and autographed Longhorn sports memorabilia. The silent auction offers fabulous items such as theatre tickets, golf outings, and gift certificates to many fine Austin restaurants and stores. Last year, silent auction proceeds funded four summer fellows.

Texas Law Fellowships invites anyone who wishes to make a contribution to public interest law and enjoy a night out to attend the auction. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $10 and include three pints of Copper Tank Beer, appetizers and a bid number. All purchases made at the auction are tax deductible.

So far, TLF has collected approximately 100 donations from businesses around Austin, UT Law faculty and staff, and friends of the Law School for the Auction. Although more items may be added, a fairly complete list of auction items is available at: ..//tlfauction2003.pdf (Acrobat PDF reader required. Download a free copy.)
