AUSTIN, Texas—The Texas-Mexico Bar Association (TMBA) will hold its 10th annual conference at The University of Texas School of Law on Oct. 16-18. The Law School is co-sponsoring the conference and UT Law professors Patricia Hansen and Jay Westbrook will join a distinguished bi-national faculty of academics, judges and practitioners to discuss cross-border legal issues.
UT Law dean William Powers will welcome participants and give introductory remarks on Friday, Oct. 17, at 9 a.m. in UT Law's Eidman Courtroom. Conference highlights include a Mexican practitioners' state district court, workshops on NAFTA dispute resolution and cross-border insolvency and a mock mediation of a cross-border products liability-personal injury dispute.
The conference will also give participants the opportunity to meet informally at several social events, including a cocktail reception at the Governor's Mansion and a festive barbeque dinner with Western Swing music and dancing on the Law School grounds. In addition to the main conference, the Law School's Student TMBA Chapter is hosting a half-day event for law students interested in learning more about cross-border practice.

The TMBA is a unique, bi-national Bar Association made up of attorneys from both Mexico and the United States. The TMBA's goals are to serve the international law practitioner by providing continuing legal education and a forum for discussion of cross-border legal issues and to foster understanding and cooperation among legal professionals from both nations.
The current Texas and Mexico co-chairs are Allene D. Evans of Perry & Haas, L.L.P, and Barbara Segovia de Alarcon of Notaria Publica 54, respectively. The TMBA administrative home is now at UT Law.
