AUSTIN, Texas — The Thurgood Marshall Legal Society (TMLS) and Chicano/Hispanic Law Students Association (CHLSA) hosted a Q&A session with Judge Gabrielle Kirk-McDonald, the former president of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, on Thursday, November 6.

"While Judge Kirk-McDonald's accomplishments are daunting and somewhat intimidating, her talk was both warm and candid. TMLS and CHLSA members felt comfortable asking questions about everything from, 'What is it like to be Federal District Court Judge?' to 'How does one get a job working with the Hague?' to 'How do you balance family life?' She answered every question with a great deal of care and even took pictures with our group afterwards. Judge Kirk-McDonald is a champion for human rights on the international scene and we deeply appreciate her taking the time to come and visit with us," said Keith Smith, TMLS president.

Judge Kirk-McDonald gave the keynote speech at the Law School's "International War Crimes Trials: Making a Difference?" conference, held November 6 and 7, and spoke to a capacity crowd in the Law School's Eidman Court Room. Attendees came from diverse homelands, including the United States, the Netherlands, Italy, Canada, Denmark, and Rwanda.
