AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas School of Law has named one of its alumni, David A. Montoya, to be the new Assistant Dean of Career Services. A 1995 graduate of UT Law, he was a partner in the law firm of Jackson Walker in Austin.

Montoya replaces Kathryn Holt Richardson, '95, who left to join the Austin office of the international legal search firm Major, Hagen & Africa. UT Law Dean Bill Powers said, “Dean Richardson did a wonderful job leading our Career Services Office. We will miss her. We are extremely fortunate to have David Montoya join us to carry on our tradition of Career Services. He has been an outstanding lawyer, and he will be a marvelous Dean of Career Services. We are lucky to have him.”

A native of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Montoya earned a bachelors degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame in 1985, where he was designated a Notre Dame Scholar. Before attending law school, he was a CPA and worked for one of the largest international CPA firms and a Fortune 200 company.

Montoya worked for Jackson Walker for six years, and was most recently a partner in the Commercial Litigation and Corporate Reorganizations/Restructuring sections, primarily serving the telecommunications, technology and financial services industries. Texas Monthly has named him a Texas Rising Star for 2004.

“I am happy and proud to be returning to the UT Law School. I look forward to working with the students, faculty and staff of this great institution,” Montoya said. “Together, I hope to continue and improve upon the important work of the Career Services Office for the benefit of all students.”
