AUSTIN, Texas — The Thurgood Marshall Legal Society (TMLS) will honor Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Wallace B. Jefferson at a private reception on Tues., Nov. 16, at The University of Texas at Austin School of Law. Justice Jefferson will be recognized for his distinguished service to the legal community and his recent appointment as the first African American chief justice of the Supreme Court of Texas.
Jefferson, a 1988 graduate of UT Law, was named chief justice of the Supreme Court of Texas by Gov. Rick Perry in September.
“We are proud of Chief Justice Jefferson’s outstanding accomplishments, and honored that he accepted our invitation to celebrate him and recognize a historic time in Texas history,” said Kenavon Carter, TMLS president.
TMLS is The University of Texas at Austin chapter of the Black Law Students' Association, a national coalition of black law students from nearly every law school in the country.
