AUSTIN, Texas — Law School alumni Shannon Ratliff, Sr., '64, Larry York, '64, and Bill Whitehurst, '70, will be honored as Distinguished Lawyers on Jan. 29 by the Austin Bar Foundation at their second-annual gala. In addition, Denise Hyde, '97, will become the second recipient of the David H. Walter Community Excellence Award.
"We congratulate Shannon, Larry, Bill, and Denise on their well-deserved honors from the Austin Bar Foundation. They are terrific people, and we are proud that they are a part of our community of friends," said Dean Bill Powers.
The Austin Bar Association’s Distinguished Lawyer Award Committee chose the three lawyers whose life work exemplifies integrity and service to community. The committee’s chair, Randy Howry of Herman, Howry & Breen, will present the award to Shannon Ratliff, Ratliff Law Firm; Bill Whitehurst, Whitehurst, Harkness, Ozmun & Brees; and Larry York, York, Keller & Field. The David H. Walter Community Excellence Award, given to an attorney who has recently made a significant impact in the community and, at the same time, raised the profile of the profession, will be presented by Don Davis of Byrd, Davis, Eisenberg, Walter & Furman, to Denise Hyde, Attorney at Law.
The gala is the foundation’s major fundraising event for the newly formed Austin Bar Foundation, which benefits year-round charitable and educational projects of the bar.
