AUSTIN, Texas — David J. Beck, alumnus of UT Law and partner in the Houston law firm of Beck, Redden & Secrest L.L.P., was presented the 2005 Jurisprudence Award from The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on April 12 in Houston.
The ADL's Jurisprudence Award is presented each year to legal professionals who demonstrate a devotion to the principles enshrined in the U.S. Constitution, commitment to the democratic values of the United States, and dedication to fair and equal justice for all.
Beck served as President of the State Bar of Texas in 1995-96. He was named by the National Law Journal as one of the top 10 trial lawyers in the United States for 1998. After a poll of Texas lawyers in 2002, he was listed by the Texas Lawyer as one of the “Go To Lawyers For Lawyers In Trouble.” In November of 2003 and October of 2004, a statewide survey by Texas Monthly named him as one of Texas' “Top 10 Super Lawyers.” He has been named one of "The Best Lawyers in America" by Woodward & White since the inception of the publication in 1990, and is currently one of the few attorneys listed in four areas of practice.
Beck currently serves as President of the University of Texas Law School Foundation Board of Trustees. He is a Past Chairman of the Texas Bar Foundation Board of Trustees, and a Sustaining Life Fellow in the Texas Bar Foundation.
He is a past recipient of the prestigious University of Texas Law School Faculty Award and the prominent State Bar of Texas Presidents' Award. He also received in 1995 the distinguished "Honorary Barrister" Award from The University of Texas Law School Board of Advocates.
Most recently, United States Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist appointed Mr. Beck to the very prestigious Judicial Conference Standing Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure. The Committee's members include some of the leading judges, academicians, and practitioners in the United States.
